Our Work

Sheep

At Bear & Twigg, our thriving sheep farming business is a central part of our regenerative model. We manage a flock of over 5,000 Merino ewes to produce both a self-replacing flock and first-cross ewe lambs. We employ regenerative agriculture and holistic management, using our sheep as a vital tool for positive environmental change and to optimise pasture health. Our meticulous approach to weaning and selling lambs benefits buyers by allowing them to control weight gain.

Land

We are dedicated to the land we work on at Canary Island, on the Loddon River floodplains. Our approach is to nurture nature, believing that by doing so, it will in turn nurture us. We focus on building natural resources and working with the land to unlock new and exciting possibilities.

Water

We are committed to a regenerative approach that strengthens our connection to the land and water. Our holistic management practices are designed to build our natural resources, including water systems. We believe that by working with nature and collaborating with purpose-driven people, we can ensure every hectare of land flourishes and provides a sustainable future.

Cattle

At Bear & Twigg, we are harnessing the power of cattle to further our regenerative model. We graze with a clear intent to boost biodiversity, balance pasture growth, and deepen ecological function across our land. As we build our knowledge and expertise, we aspire to grow our cattle operation into a significant contributor to both our environmental goals and our long-term profitability.

Initiatives & Projects

Environmental Initiatives

We are currently engaged in an inspiring collaboration with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, North Central Catchment Management Authority, Barapa Barapa mob, and the Wetland Revival Trust. Additionally, we are pioneering carbon and natural capital accounting as a participant in the first-ever Agriculture Stewardship Carbon + Biodiversity Pilot, which rewards farmers for improving on-farm biodiversity.

We are at the forefront of environmental collaboration, working with government departments and trusts on projects that improve on-farm biodiversity and pioneer carbon accounting. This is a tangible way we drive positive change and offer a glimpse into the future of farming.

Farm Experiences

We offer a camping site through Hipcamp, providing visitors with a unique opportunity to connect directly with our land and our ethos.

Education

We believe in the power of knowledge-sharing and provide lectures and presentations on our innovative approach to farming and environmental stewards.
